As a 1099 Independent Contractor you have the ability to:

– manage your own caseload (unless supervised due to limited licensure)

– practice/use your own therapy style

– see clients in a beautiful and fully furnished office



First, it would be helpful if you know who your ideal client or niche is (e.g., women only, teens and young adults, couples, etc).

Second, having a knowledge of how to market your services to your ideal client.

In addition, it’s beneficial if you are able to write/blog about your speciality.

Additionally, be comfortable with public speaking or small group presentations.

Along with what is listed above, a desire and ability to build referral relationships with members of the community is important.



First –  Have a Master’s degree in related field: psychology, counseling, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy. Doctorate degree in related field: counseling, counseling psychology, psychology or related mental health field.

Second – Hold a current and valid license (LLPC, LPC, LLCSW, LCSW, LLP, PsyD, PhD etc) to provide services in the State of Michigan through the Michigan Board of Counseling, Michigan Board of Psychology, Michigan Board of Social Work.

**Fully licensed clinicians are preferred**



Provide counseling and therapeutically related services commensurate with licensure.

Formulate differential diagnosis and provide treatment for various mental health conditions.

Consultation and collaboration with multidisciplinary provider team.

Identify clients with urgent mental health needs and refer to emergency and community resources as appropriate.

Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical and counseling services, including all necessary billing information, collection of payment(s) for service(s) provided.

Ensure accurate and consistent use of EHR for all client encounters, services provided, documentation, and scheduling.

Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education.

Maintain confidentiality, follow federal, state, and local legal guidelines, follow license criteria when licensure applies, maintain HIPPA compliance.

Be self-directed and self-motivated.

Able to work a variable schedule; evening hours and availability for weekend hours (no Sundays)

Maintain good working relationship with referral resources.
